FAQs

How do I switch broadband providers in Brisbane?

Choose a new plan through Compare Broadband, sign up, and your new provider manages the transfer. No technician visit is required in most cases for standard nbn® service transfers.

Will my internet cut out when I switch?

For most nbn® transfers in Brisbane, there is no service interruption. If your connection type is changing or you need new equipment, your provider will talk you through any downtime.

Are there any costs my nbn® provider may charge me?

Possible charges to be aware of before you sign up or switch: Early termination fee - applies if you leave a fixed-term contract before it ends Modem return fee - if you have a rented device and cancel your service Modem delivery fee - charged by some providers when your plan activates New development fee - if your property has never been connected to the nbn® network before Opticomm connection fee - if your address is served by the Opticomm network rather than nbn® Compare Broadband is free to use and you pay the same price as going direct to the provider.

Can I get the nbn® fibre upgrade in my Brisbane apartment?

It depends on your building's connection type. Apartment buildings with FTTB connections may be eligible for upgrades to higher speed tiers. FTTP upgrades to individual apartments depend on building infrastructure. Check your address through the Compare Broadband plan checker.

Is my Brisbane address eligible for a free fibre upgrade?

Many Brisbane properties on FTTN are eligible for NBN Co's free FTTP upgrade program.

Are there any nbn® outages in Brisbane?

Outages can occur due to maintenance, weather events or network faults. Your provider's app or support line is the fastest way to check for outages affecting your specific Brisbane address.

Are you eligible for a FREE fibre upgrade?

The government is making 1.5 million Australian homes and businesses eligible for a speed upgrade to FTTP (Fibre to the Premises), which offers greater speed and reliability. Selected towns and suburbs with FTTC and FTTN are eligible for the upgrade with an eligible high speed nbn plan.
